The new year of 2013 is coming upon us, and quickly. Last year, I started Blog for Mental Health 2012. For those that are unaware of what Blog for Mental Health 2012 was, I’ll fill you in quickly:
Many people who suffer from mental health disorders do so in silence. And prior to many of our own blogs, we may have done just the same. By taking the pledge to Blog for Mental Health in the year of 2012, we celebrate our own voices that speak up in our own unique ways. We pledge that not only do we blog about mental health topics for ourselves, but for the inspiration of others to raise their voices and tell their own stories of their own personal experiences with mental health disorders.

I fully intend on continuing this pledge and tradition into the new year of 2013. Therefore, I’ve gotten started early on the design for the Blog for Mental Health 2013 badge. Last year, it was created solely on my own. But this year, I’d like others to participate in selecting the official badge to represent the pledge.
The nominees are:
If you have any suggestions for combining badges, they are quite welcome. Let the voting begin!
PS: Please visit the comments section for additional badges that were created after the first run.

I’m going with number three. They are all wonderful, but for me that one has the best touch of you in it, and while you’re being sweet to include everyone, I think it wouldn’t have the same feel without something personal to you in it.
To be honest, I really like them all. That’s the problem! LOL!
I like them all as well – a lot. But for whatever reason, I just feel you most in that one.
It feels scattered like me. I liked it, because it resembled the previous year’s badge. In fact, I think I used the same photo editing site for both of them!
Scattered, but beautiful!
Thank you, lovely. Most of the time, I feel like this fractured kind of mess, you know?
Yes. I can most definitely relate.
I like #1 best myself. I find the fonts on #3 and #5 a little hard to read, and #2 is so close to Comic Sans it hurts to look at it.
But I’m a font snob, so you know, inordinately picky about that kind of thing.
If you like any other of the backgrounds better, I’d be happy to pair them with the font from #1 to get a better idea.
Nah, actually, I like the background in #1 better too. I like the skillful use of depth of field to put attention on the message rather than the image behind it.
You know, I liked that about it too. Although I could readjust the focus on any of the photos, I just don’t feel it’s the same.
Now you’re making me partial to #1!
I like number 1!
Could you take the lettering from number one and use the background of number 3 or 4? I like those backgrounds…I like the background of number 1 too…..I hope this hasn’t been confusing 😛
I’ll take the backgrounds from those and put them up in a second. We’ll take a look.
Any thoughts?
Ooooo I like them both but I’d say my favourite is the last one!
Thanks for doing this! Shows your awesome passion!
Graphic art is about the only thing I can do right now, regretfully. My writing has pretty much tapped out 😦
I would argue you could say more with pictures!
Probably, but usually art isn’t my forte. It’s a strange thing when my mind is shifting focuses like that.
Get’s bored I guess.
My brain does get bored easily. How did you know? Are you in there? LOLOL.
Ha ha mine does it all the time! I can’t get into things because I get bored. It’s almost impossible for me to become addicted to something :p I’d be a horrible gamer!
Gaming and alcohol were like the only two things I could get addicted to. Ha! I guess it’s because my brain was too numb to remember that it was bored to begin with!
I abused alcohol lol certain things are just more fun!
I like the second one. I LOVE the marbles!!
You know, it wasn’t originally intended. But, when I typed “mental health” into google images, I found the first image I used for a background. Last years theme was scrapbook. I thought marbles was appropriate, LOL.
I really love it, well done! And you are doing a really good thing. I love the Mentals blogs! Good writing, good information and hopefully an opportunity to support others in their journeys.
Thanks, I really appreciate it. Especially since I’ve hit this dry spell here. I don’t know what’s up with it. I guess there’s only so many posts I can do exploring the dozens of reasons why I could have writers blog. But, for the time being, I guess I’ll continue to do these memes and badges! Maybe I’ll invent my own blog badge!
You should! and give me one! I haven’t noticed you having a dry spell…maybe you are just bored with it for now? I go through that, too.
LOL, I have no idea how I could ever get bored with writing! No, I keep a regular old journal too, and I’ve been filling one of those at least once a month, if not more. I guess maybe I think some things are just too boring for a blog. Which seems to be everything right now.
I love the second one! I love that font with the background with the tipped-over jar and the marbles.
The second one in the comment section?
I’d like to vote for the second one you included in this comment. I’m kind of a pain-in-the-ass critic sometimes. I hate the font in #3.It’s hard for me to read. And for some reason the jar in #2 annoys me.
I feel like the second one above is the cleanest both in terms of image and font.
I like the idea of having three or so to choose from also. That way, the blogger can choose which of the variations they like best. I don’t think the font necessarily has to be the same as long as the images are clearly related. I think the fact that they all contain similarly-colored marbles is enough to indicate they’re part of the same project.
That second one in the comment section is really starting to grow on me too. It is really clean and visible.
I like #2 and I think this is a brilliant idea! I also have a mental health blog on wordpress called My Mood Magic
I love #2! Love the jar and the blue sky! Karen x
I liked the blue sky too and what the jar represents. Everyone seems to like the lettering on #1, so I could go ahead and put that together, if anyone prefers.
Definitely! I think that would look awesome x
Will do!
Or do you think it should be black? Black didn’t feel right.
That looks amazing! I think you are right, black would be too . . . it would darken the sky too much x
It’s very light and airy.
Sooo many choices!

I have an idea..they are all so cool why not offer them all and let the blogger pick the one that fits their blog best?
I thought about that, but I would like to probably limit it down to three at most. And it would probably be better if they had the same font. Just so it’s recognizable against potential knock-offs.
Got ya, makes sense.
I’m really only trying to protect my own work, basically.
oh I understand, as you should.
My vote is for #3
Again, like I told Ruby, I am partial to them all!
I didn’t participate in this year’s pledge ( because I didn’t start blogging until March) but am keen to for 2013. And I like the last one. 🙂
1 or 4. I like 1 the best for the font and the background. I’m not for keeping the marbles in the jar as it seems like thats symbolic of containing the mental health issues or “bottling them up” and not expressing them. Of course I read things into a lot of stuff, so it could just be my opinion.
It’s funny you said that, because I was starting to think the same thing. I am starting to become partial to number 1 and the 2nd one in the comment section. The font is something I’m particularly fond of.
Glad I’m not just reading into things too much.
I read into things too. Everything has meaning. At least I think so. Maybe I’m just sharing my crazies now.

They are all wonderful, but personally I love the second one in the comments section. Great font and colours on the marbles.
Looking forward to taking the pledge next year 🙂
Looking
I’m going to tally up the votes next week and choose maybe two or three. Everyone seems to like the first one and the second one in the comment section, so those will probably be it.

The voting for the Blog For Mental Health 2013 Badge Voting is coming to an end. Tomorrow, I will tally up the votes and the badges will be decided. Cast your vote now!
I really like number 3! It’s neat but creative too. Good luck 🙂
I like number 1 – will be easy to read when resized, and (silly) I like those color marbles best 🙂
The color does matter. I want people to choose the one that is visually appealing.
I think I like #3 the best!
Hi! I’m just starting another blog on mental health on tumblr (not done editing it yet so it’s still a mess) Do you mind is I use the winning badge? I think it’s just lovely
I don’t mind at all. Keep your eye open over the next week, because the winner will finally be announced!
